Clinton Middle School opened in 1976 and it currently has a square footage of 133,200. The school sits on a large site, which is shared with the Clinton High School on approximately 24 acres of land. It is anticipated that any new construction project would still be located on this shared site.
Currently CMS houses approximately 580 students in grades 5 through 8, however, the middle school previously housed grades 4 through 8. The fourth grade was moved to the Clinton Elementary School for the 2018-2019 school year to reduce overcrowding at CMS and to maximize the number of students in the most current facility. CMS was originally built with an open concept design and over the years walls have been added to these spaces which has created oddly shaped and inefficient classrooms.
